Thank heaven for Millfield, which popped up early in 2024, filling the evening dining void left in Ballan by the closure of the dearly departed Great Western Hotel.

And what a job it’s doing! Cafe by day, restaurant on Friday and Saturday nights, Millfield has made its name with a smallish, but superbly executed breakfast and bistro menu

Try signature dishes like Jacob’s Ladder (slow-braised beef), hearty lamb shanks, or on the lighter side, bagels with gin-cured ocean trout, and tasty pulled pork sliders have developed a devoted following.

While Millfield waits for its liquor licence you are welcome to BYO, so grab a bottle from the local Country Grocers bottle shop, and settle in at this Moorabool gem.
