Spectacular views in the Werribee Gorge State Park
Shaped by 500 million years of geological history, Werribee Gorge State Park is an area of spectacular natural beauty offering a selection of short and long loop walks.
Visitors can choose from a range of hikes through the steep, river-washed gorge while enjoying inspiring views of the surrounding rocky ridges.
All walks are Grade 3, meaning a moderate level of fitness is required, walking on uneven ground with many steps, some rock hopping and steep hill sections involved.
Wedge-tailed Eagles and Peregrine Falcons are among the plentiful bird life you’ll find in the area, along with native wildlife such as echidnas, koalas, platypus and kangaroos.
The Meikles Point and Quarry Areas offer prime spots for picnics, with amazing scenery complemented by fireplaces, picnic tables and toilets.
If you’re new to the park, a great place to start is at the entry point at 204 Myers Road Pentland Hills (midway between Bacchus Marsh and Ballan) where’ll find the Quarry and Meikles Point picnic areas, along with the Myers Road Trailhead and information boards for getting started.
