The Border Inn, Bacchus Marsh: Modern menu and pub traditions

One of Bacchus Marsh’s historic pubs has found a new lease of life, with The Border Inn once again a lively place to eat, drink and catch up right in the heart of town.

Established in 1850, the Border has been part of Bacchus Marsh for generations, but these days there’s a contemporary feel to the old local. There are plenty of different spaces to settle into, from the bistro and traditional front bar to the cocktail lounge, sports bar and beer garden, making it just as suitable for a family lunch as a few drinks with friends. 

The menu takes a modern Australian approach to classic pub favourites, with steaks, parmas and burgers alongside seasonal dishes and share plates. There’s a weekday light lunch menu too, while the bar covers tap beers, Victorian wines and cocktails. 

There’s usually something happening beyond lunch and dinner as well. Trivia, weekly food and drink specials, raffles and other pub activities fill out the week, while selected weekends bring live music and special events – so it’s worth checking what’s on if you’re heading to Bacchus Marsh for the weekend. 

Sitting at the Melbourne end of Main Street, the Border is also an easy addition to a day exploring Bacchus Marsh – stop in for lunch, make it the starting point for an evening out, or grab a table after spending the afternoon exploring town.
