Cajun and Zydeco Mardi Gras Dance Party in Blackwood

  • St Martins Chapel Martin Street Blackwood, VIC, 3458 Australia (map)

Come celebrate Cajun Mardi Gras with Melbourne’s own ‘Johnny Can’t Dance’ Cajun Band, one of Australia’s leading Cajun/Creole music ensembles, and rocking Zydeco outfit "Gumbo Express" from the Victorian Central Highlands.

Throughout ‘Cajun Country’ in rural Southwest Louisiana and on the streets of New Orleans they celebrate the annual Catholic festival of Mardi Gras ‘Fat Tuesday’, the day before the start of Lent, a celebration of food, music and dance with beaded parades, costumed chicken runs, marching bands, dance bands, king cake and communal gumbos...

This year we come together to party for Mardi Gras on the Saturday and Sunday before Fat Tuesday at St Martins Church, Martin St Blackwood (Saturday night) and Coburg RSL, Sydney Rd Coburg (Sunday afternoon).

The ‘Johnny Can’t Dance’ Cajun Band are dedicated practitioners of the tradition dance and social music from the ‘Cajun country’ of rural Louisiana and East Texas.

Johnny Can’t Dance will take to the stage for the first set of the night for your dancing pleasure performing two-steps, one-steps, waltzes, blues and stomps from the swamps!

Australia's newest and rockingest Zydeco outfit, Gumbo Express play tough, rocking zydeco, swamp pop, cajun and creole blues, bringing a big second set of Louisiana dance grooves.

Y'all make plans to drop by!
