Open Gardens Victoria in Blackwood

  • Blackwood Ridge and Forest Edge Blackwood, VIC, 3458 Australia (map)

Two beautiful private gardens at Blackwood will be welcoming public visitors over the first weekend in November.

Both the Blackwood Ridge garden and the Forest Edge garden will be opening as part of the Open Gardens Victoria program on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November.

Blackwood Ridge is three-acre garden created over 25 years on a former strawberry farm. It includes seven themed garden "rooms," including a Japanese-inspired garden, a pollinator garden, and a formal kitchen garden. The garden has a rich collection of Japanese maples, rhododendrons, oaks, and conifers. Light refreshments will be available, with a portion of proceeds supporting the Australian Rhododendron Society.

Forest Edge is one-hectare garden set against the Wombat State Forest. The garden was originally established in 1862. It features a wide variety of trees, including a large Golden Ash and a 160-year-old Irish Strawberry tree. It also has a rose garden and other features like local stone tiers and garden art.
