On the Local Arts Trail in November 2025

— with Alison Desmond —

The weather is fining up and there are some great opportunities to get out and browse the ever-changing collections in Moorabool’s contemporary art galleries!

Flack Post & Telegraph Office

Gallerist Danielle Briglia recently hosted a successful fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, with proceeds from all sales going to fund research.

Breast cancer is referenced in Lesley Rosochodski’s oil painting Be Your Tiger, a surreal sandy oasis with a tiger reclining on a chaise lounge, before a screen of palms.

The lounge is the same one housed in Flack, symbolising the connection with other survivors.

“Without her inner tiger she may not have made it through, her message, be your tiger,” said Lesley.

Flack PTO Gallery is open 11am-2pm Fridays and Sunday, and 10am-3pm Saturdays

BMAC, Lerderderg Library, Bacchus Marsh

BMAC members have been busy exhibiting at the library recently so it will make a nice change to approach the end the year with a clay Christmas angel with Belinda Kitching.

Join in the fun at Yaloak Vale Estate from 10am to 3pm on Tuesday, 8 November

$10 per person plus bring a plate for a shared lunch. New members welcome.

Oak Grove Gallery

This painting by Martin McCleal is a masterclass in capturing fleeting reflective light and one of my favourites yet.

A sandy beige pathway, with yellow and rust accents, winds around darkly shaded, rooted clumps of shrubbery to an incline that rises to meet the billowing, drifting clouds.

A blue sky is revealed beyond and light dances spontaneously over the scene like a musical composition, like a sunny day.

For Moorabool’s best views visit Marty at Oak Grove Gallery.

Oak Grove Gallery is open “most days, depending on the mood.”

Gordon Bar Room Gallery

The folks at Gordon Bar Room Gallery continue to impress with an ever-changing collection of original, affordable, high-quality local works.

With a great range of ceramics, jewellery, textiles, painting, prints and more, it’s the perfect place to find handmade statement artworks.

Gordon Bar Room Gallery is open 10am to 2pm Saturdays

Ballan Art Space

Supernatural is the theme of the new group exhibition at Ballan Art Space Supernatural - how will this be interpreted by the artists? It’s always a pleasure to find out.

The gallery is also filled with giftware including jewellery, keyrings, pens, journals and new Christmas stock arriving.

Take a selfie in the sculpture garden with lots to see on a sunny day.

Ballan Art Space is open 10am to 3pm Friday to Sunday

Moorabool Art Community Pathways (MAPP) Up in Lights

The fallen will be commemorated for Remembrance Day this year with exhibitions in both Bacchus Marsh and Ballan MAPP art spaces from November 5 to 14.

MAPP up in lights can be viewed at Village Green, Bacchus Marsh and AA McClean Reserve, Ballan.

Public and Community Arts

Moorabool Shire has an amazing collection of public art, from markers of place in bush settings, to Ballan’s cosily yarn-bombed Inglis Street, to eye-catching paste-ups in the townships.

You can find out more about Moorabool’s public art pieces at the Moorbool Shire website
